Deborah's Story
Deborah's Story
Deborah was one of only five named prophetesses in Scripture and the only female judge in Israel when the nation was ruled by judges. At that time, the Israelites cried to God for help from the cruelty of King Jabin of Canaan. God told Deborah to lure Sisera, the commander of the Canaanite army into the hands of Barak, her military commander. Barak, however, replied that he would only fight if Deborah went with him. She did, leading the Israelite army to victory.
To honor Deborah, we created a blend of jasmine, patchouli, vanilla, musk and pepper. Patchouli symbolizes power, in recognition of the power Deborah held to lead the army to victory.
Deborah’s story is told in chapters 4 and 5 of the book of Judges.
